Purpose of the site
This site is published as a professional reference. It describes what a domain name expert witness does, what evidence domain systems produce, and what published policies and rules say about the proceedings in which that evidence is used.
It is informational. It is not legal advice, it does not address any reader's circumstances, and it must not be relied on as a substitute for advice from qualified counsel. By using the site you accept the terms on this page.
No relationship is created
Reading this site, following a link from it, or sending an email to the address published on it does not create an expert-client relationship, an attorney-client relationship, or any engagement of any kind. An engagement begins only when it has been agreed directly, after a conflict check and an agreed scope.
Unsolicited material about a live matter should not be sent. It will not be treated as confidential in the absence of an engagement, and it may create conflicts that prevent a later engagement.
Content and permitted use
The written content of this site is my own work. You may read it, print it, quote it with attribution, and link to it. You may not republish it wholesale, present it as your own, or use it to train or fine-tune a system that reproduces it as though it were generated material.
Quoting a passage in a filing, a brief or an article is expressly fine, and citing it accurately — with the page it came from — is appreciated. Nothing on this site is a substitute for reading the primary sources it points to, and where a policy, statute or standard is described here, the instrument itself controls.
Accuracy and currency
Domain name policy changes, sometimes materially and sometimes quickly. Registration data policy, transfer policy, dispute-resolution rules, certificate requirements and browser behavior have all changed within recent memory, and the effective dates matter to any analysis that depends on them.
Pages here state the version and effective date of an instrument where it is relied on. Even so, the material may be out of date at the moment you read it, and no representation is made that it is current, complete or free of error. Verify against the primary source before relying on any detail in a live matter.
External links are provided to primary sources. Their content is controlled by the organizations that publish them, and no responsibility is taken for it.
No warranty, and limits
The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, no liability is accepted for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, anything published here.
Some material on this site describes United States federal law and is flagged as US-specific. Other material describes contractual mechanisms that operate across generic top-level domains worldwide. Country-code top-level domains fall outside those mechanisms and are governed by their own registries' rules. Which body of rules applies to any matter is a legal question for counsel.
